During her secondment, she brings us the expertise on Analytics and Information Architecture (focus on User Experience and social data), and the IBM Cognitive Computing solutions on Watson.
Starting from 1 Feb 2016, we welcomed the new secondees from the Expert System: Veronica Villa, Anna Cuccovillo, and Eliana Bombieri for their secondment in the University of Aberdeen, and their expertise on Computational Linguistics. They will contribute to the WP9 in the K-Drive project.
From 19 Jan 2016 Dr. Marco Monti will visiting University of Aberdeen and do his secondment. During this secondment he will investigate new applications of Semantic technologies in a different health care use case. He will continue the efforts on leading his team to set up long term cooperation with the University of Aberdeen.
From 23 Nov 2015 four IBMers: Dr. Marco Monti, Alessandro Faraotti, Alessandra Coletti, and Emanuela Valle have come to Aberdeen to do their secondments.
During this secondment, they will strength their capabilities on using semantic technologies, and develop further cooperation with the colleagues in the University of Aberdeen.
Dr. Jose from iSOCO/ESI is visiting the University of Aberdeen, for his secondment starting from 4 Oct , 2015.
During this period, Jose will focus on collaboration with the researchers in the University of Aberdeen on Work-Package 9: The Guidance, in which we will further extend the intelligent UI. He will also involve in the revision of the K-drive book and discussion on a proposal for FTI H2020.
On 1 Oct 2015, K-Drive colleagues from IBM Italy and the University of Aberdeen had a workshop together in Aberdeen.
Dr. Marco Monti presented “How to Leverage Unstructured Data with Advanced Content Analytics and Knowledge Graphs”, and also led a discussion on a use case for a project. Alessandro Faraotti gave a talk on “Merging NLP and semantic technologies in dialogue systems”, in which he introduced how how NLP and semantic technologies can be employed to design dialogue systems together with a discussion about challenges and future. Dr. Honghan Wu presented “Query Generation for Healthcare: a case study” and also showed a demo. Dr. Yuting Zhao introduced the preparation of a FET project proposal, and led a discussion.
In this afternoon, about 10+ colleagues had join this workshop , Dr. Yuting Zhao from IBM Italia chaired this workshop. Dr. Jeff Pan, Emanuela Valle, Alessandra Coletti, Dr. Marco Senatore, Biralatei Fawei and Isa Guccu also joined the meeting and the discussions.
On 25 September 2015, the IBMers who visiting the University of Aberdeen and the local Aberdeen researchers had a workshop together.
Totally 10+ colleagues joined this half-day workshop. During this workshop, some presentations were given on the recent research works by K-Drive colleagues. Also some issues for future cooperation were discussed.
Emanuela Valle from IBM Italia gave the presentation “How to approach a Data Mining Project: CRISP-DM Methodology“. In her talk, Emanuela mainly introduced the CRISP-DM (Cross Industry Standard Process for Data Mining) Methodology, which is a very powerful and useful method to approach data mining activities and a practical example of application of this method in a real project.
Alessandra Coletti from IBM Italia gave a talk on “Entity Resolution for Bank’s Prospect Customers“, In her presentation, Alessandra shared her experience of using the IBM SPSS Modeler Entity Analytics, including the purpose and the main functionalities. She also introduced an interesting real use-case.
Dr. Marco Senatore from IBM Italia presented “Robust routing for smart city: models and algorithms“. In this presentation, Marco firstly tackled the problem of modelling the effect of limited reliability of networks which is important in many applications. Then he introduced novel models and algorithms for the design of robust routing mechanisms capable of dealing with uncertainty and failure scenarios, with particular focus on the application of his results to the Public Transport Problems. At last he concluded his talk by stressing some possible overlapping between Graph Theory problems and Semantic Technologies.
Dr. Jeff Pan from the University of Aberdeen, as the PI of the K-Drive project, gave a talk on “Semantic technologies, knowledge graph, and technical challenges in the K-Drive project“. In this presentation, Jeff firstly introduce the K-Drive project itself, then Jeff mainly focused on semantic technologies: the motivation, history, and the state of the art. He also discussed special applications in the Semantic Web and Knowledge Graph.
Dr. Yuting Zhao from IBM Italia chaired this workshop. Dr. Marco Monti, Alessandro Faraotti, Dr. Honghan Wu, Biralatei Fawei and Isa Guccu also joined the meeting and discussions on the future cooperation.
Starting from this September, three new IBMers: Alessandra Coletti, Emanuela Valle, and Marco Senatore have joined the project, and become new K-Drivers. Their will contribute to the Work Packages 8, learn semantic technologies and develop new skills, and also set up new cooperation with other colleagues in this project.
Alessandra Coletti has gained her Master degree in Mathematics in 2012 from the “Università degli Studi” of Pavia, and Master degree in Pianoforte in 2010 from the “Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali Franco Vittadini” of Pavia. Now she is a Data Scientist in IBM Italy, and currently works as a consultant in Customer & Social Analytics projects.
Emanuela Valle has gained a Master degree in Mathematics in 2011 from the Università degli Studi di Roma “Tor Vergata” , and a Master Degree in Mathematical Finance in 2012 from the Università degli Studi di Bologna “Alma Mater”. Now she is a consultant in IBM Italia and she is working as a Data Scientist in Customer and Social Analytics projects.
